PATU

New Zealand Maori Patu

The Patu is a short hand club, carved out of Bone, Wood, or Pounamu (Greenstone) and was a lethal weapon in the hands of a competent warrior.

The Patu was carried in the warrior's flax belt and was often a treasured heirloom, passed from generation to generation - usually only chiefs of high standing possessing them.

Patu also means to hit or strike.

Nowadays, the Patu symbolises the facing and overcoming of life's challenges and difficulties.
